Strategies for Speed Reading and Improving Comprehension

Abstract

This article discusses key strategies that enhance reading speed while maintaining or improving comprehension. In the modern era of information overload, the ability to read efficiently is a critical academic and professional skill. Speed reading involves more than just reading quickly it requires a strategic approach to text that minimizes subvocalization, encourages visual chunking, and improves focus. The article also emphasizes the importance of comprehension as the ultimate goal of reading. Practical methods such as skimming, scanning, previewing, and summarizing are examined in detail to support learners in achieving a balance between speed and understanding.
