This article examines the methodological potential of authentic texts in developing critical reading skills among EFL learners. It analyzes the relationship between authenticity, linguistic competence, critical thinking, and reading strategies and discusses practical principles for selecting and exploiting authentic materials. Particular attention is given to pre-reading, while-reading, and post-reading activities that transform reading from passive information retrieval into an analytical and evaluative process.
