The article examines the mechanisms for increasing the social activity of higher education institution students through media education. In the context of digital transformation, media education is becoming not only a means of developing information literacy, but also an important pedagogical factor in shaping students’ civic consciousness, social responsibility, communicative culture and readiness for public participation. The study interprets social activity as a complex personal quality that includes initiative, social awareness, critical thinking, responsibility, cooperation and participation in socially significant processes. The article analyzes the pedagogical potential of media education in strengthening students’ involvement in social projects, public dialogue, volunteer activities, digital communication and civic initiatives. The methodological basis of the research includes systematic analysis, comparative-pedagogical interpretation, theoretical generalization and content analysis of media-educational practices. The results show that media education increases students’ social activity when it is organized as an integrated pedagogical process combining media literacy, critical analysis, project-based learning, reflective communication and socially oriented digital practice. The article substantiates that media education helps transform students from passive consumers of information into active participants in social life.
