The Everyday Life of The Rural Population of Karakalpakstan During the Second World War

Abstract

This article is dedicated to the living and working conditions of the rural population of Karakalpakstan during the Second World War. It highlights the fundamental aspects of the everyday history of the Karakalpak people during this period, including lifestyle, diet, clothing, occupations, education, leisure, weddings, songs, rituals, habits, and health. Drawing on archival materials, the paper illustrates the dedicated labor of the Karakalpak people on the home front to provide for the soldiers of the Red Army. Based on oral testimonies from eyewitnesses of that harsh era, the study examines the challenging living conditions and domestic realities experienced behind the lines of the Second World War.
