Mas’ud Samarkandi Saloti Mas’udiy Hanafi school

The work “Saloti Mas’udiy” by Mas’ud ibn Mahmud ibn Yusuf Samarkandi (late 13th century – early 14th century) is a voluminous text in the genre of “Fatwa”, addressing practical legal and religious issues of Muslims following the Hanafi school in Transoxiana. This article provides a historical and contemporary study of the work, discussing the author’s biography, the historical significance of “Saloti Mas’udiy”, its structural analysis, and the extant manuscripts, lithographs, and translations preserved in global collections. Some contemporary jurisprudential issues are addressed based on the principles outlined in “Saloti Mas’udiy”.
