This article examines changes in the traditional dress culture of the population of the Bukhara oasis during the twentieth century and the first quarter of the twenty-first century, focusing on the survival of traditional elements and their integration with contemporary practices. It analyses the historical and ethnographic characteristics of Bukhara dress, particularly gold embroidery, silk and adras fabrics, garment construction, and the sociocultural functions of ornamentation. It also discusses the impact of Soviet-era standardisation and globalisation on local dress culture, as well as the emergence of an “ethno-modern” style alongside a renewed awareness of national identity in the early twenty-first century. The article is intended for specialists and readers interested in ethnology, cultural studies, and art history.
