This background surveys the theoretical and empirical study of phraseological units (PUs) in English, Uzbek, and Karakalpak, together with the strategies proposed for their translation. It draws on research conducted at the international, CIS, Uzbekistan, and Karakalpakstan levels, tracing the field from classical Russian and English phraseological theory to recent comparative and translation-oriented studies, and identifies the specific research gap regarding Karakalpak phraseology that motivates further investigation.
