THIRST FOR HOPE: CLIMATE CHANGE-INDUCED DROUGHT DEEPENS POVERTY IN SOUTHERN AFRICA
Abstract
This study examines the alarming impact of climate change-induced drought on poverty levels in Southern Africa. The region has been grappling with persistent drought conditions, exacerbating existing socioeconomic challenges and pushing vulnerable populations deeper into poverty. Through a comprehensive analysis of climate data, socio-economic indicators, and qualitative research, this study highlights the complex interplay between climate change, drought, and poverty. It sheds light on the cascading effects of drought, including reduced agricultural productivity, water scarcity, food insecurity, and increased livelihood vulnerabilities. The study underscores the urgent need for adaptive strategies, policy interventions, and international cooperation to address the multidimensional crisis unfolding in Southern Africa.
