Values And Their Linguistic Expression: A Linguocultural Perspective
Abstract
This article explores the concept of values as cultural and cognitive constructs, and how they are expressed and reflected in language. Values serve as guiding principles for behavior and social norms within a society and are deeply rooted in the linguistic system. The paper examines the linguistic representation of values across different languages, with a focus on metaphor, proverbs, culturally loaded vocabulary, and discourse strategies. It also highlights how values differ across cultures and how these differences manifest linguistically, affecting translation, intercultural communication, and language teaching.
