Children’s folk games classification comparative linguistics

The present article elucidates the issues of genre classification of children folk games in Uzbek and English cultures. The major genres have been identified as action games, plot-base games, role-based games, imitative-role games, dialogue games, song games, circle games. Particular attention is given to the relationship between genre and thematic classification. The findings indicate that genre classification provides an effective framework for studying children’s games as linguocultural texts and identifying the cognitive models. The research contributes to comparative linguistics, linguoculturology, children’s folklore studies and the linguistic analyses of traditional children’s games.
