This article examines the thanatological motifs in the works of Nazar Eshonqul, one of the leading representatives of contemporary Uzbek prose. It analyzes the artistic and philosophical interpretation of death and explores the functions of such motifs as corpses, coffins, graves, cemeteries, spirits, and resurrection in the construction of plot, characterization, and artistic space. Particular attention is paid to the mythopoetic, demonological, and existential dimensions of the writer’s thanatological conception. Several of Eshonqul’s works are also compared with examples from Latin American literature. The study concludes that Nazar Eshonqul has developed an original aesthetic model for interpreting the relationship between life and death in modern Uzbek literature.
