Gastritis is a common gastrointestinal disorder characterized by inflammation of the gastric mucosa. It may develop as a result of Helicobacter pylori infection, long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, alcohol consumption, autoimmune mechanisms, and other factors. Modern diagnosis is based on clinical assessment, laboratory investigations, non-invasive testing for H. pylori, and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with biopsy when indicated. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include H. pylori eradication therapy, acid-suppressive medications, withdrawal of causative agents, and appropriate dietary and lifestyle modifications. Early diagnosis and individualized treatment can reduce complications and improve patients’ quality of life.
