Dr.Baishalee Kalita , Department of English Royal Global University, Assam, India

Abstract

This study examines the linguistic landscape of Assam, focusing on the usage of the Assamese language and the relationship between dialectal varieties and the standard language. Assam is known for its rich linguistic diversity, with numerous dialectal variations existing alongside the standard Assamese language. This research aims to explore the dynamics between these dialectal varieties and the standard language, analyzing factors that shape their usage patterns and the sociolinguistic implications of such variations. Through a combination of field surveys, language documentation, and sociolinguistic analysis, the study provides insights into the role of the standard Assamese language as a linguistic anchor and the challenges faced by dialect speakers. The findings contribute to a better understanding of linguistic diversity in Assam and offer valuable insights for language planning and preservation efforts.
