This article analyzes scientific views on the phenomenon of "deceited expectations" in literary texts, their interpretation and analysis, linguistic and pragmatic features. The article is based on the approaches of the Russian formal school, structural linguistics and pragmatics. Examples are given based on real literary texts, and the stylistic and communicative functions of this phenomenon are revealed.
