The Role of Ai Tools in Translating Terminology

The development of artificial intelligence has changed the practical organization of translation work. Google Translate, DeepL and large language models such as ChatGPT are now used not only for everyday communication but also for the translation of specialized texts. However, terminology is one of the most sensitive areas of translation because a term is not simply a word; it is a unit that represents a concept within a particular professional field. This article discusses the role of AI tools in translating terminology, with special attention to semantic accuracy, contextual interpretation, cultural adaptation and post-editing. The paper argues that AI systems can be useful assistants in terminology translation, but they cannot replace the analytical competence of a translator. The most difficult cases occur when terms are metaphorical, idiomatic, culture-bound or connected with a professional system that has no direct equivalent in the target language. At the culminating point of the article, several examples are analyzed in detail to show how AI tools may produce literal, incomplete or stylistically unnatural translations and how these outputs can be improved by human translators.
