The Contemporary Role Of Specialized Agencies Within The United Nations System In Addressing Environmental Challenges: A Case Study Of FAO, IFAD And UNEP
Abstract
This article analyzes the modern role of the specialized agencies of the United Nations (UN) — the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) — in addressing global environmental challenges. The study explores the international legal status of these organizations, their principal areas of activity, and their cooperation experience with the Republic of Uzbekistan. Furthermore, it highlights the contribution of FAO and UNEP to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their institutional significance in the framework of global environmental governance. The research demonstrates that the effective functioning of these agencies contributes not only to improving international environmental law enforcement but also to strengthening national ecological policies and food security strategies in developing countries, including Uzbekistan.
