Association Of Toll-Like Receptor 2 With Cytokines And Disease Activity In Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis TLR2 IL-1 IL-6

This research aimed to determine the link between Toll-like receptors (TLR) 2, cytokines that promote inflammation, and the clinical state of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). TLR2 levels were studied in conjunction with serum levels of the inflammatory cytokines IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-α, along with vitamin D, C reactive protein (CRP), rheumatoid factor (RF), anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (anti CCP's), and disease activity scores (DAS-28) on both articular and extra-articular RA patients. Those with extra-articular features had a much greater statistically significant correlation of TLR2 and pro-inflammatory cytokines than those with only articular features. TLR2 levels were also found to have a statistically significant association with DAS28 values and the presence of anti-CCP positivity. These results suggest that TLR2 may be used as a prognostic indicator for both immune and inflammatory activity in RA.
